A study published in the journals of Addictive Behaviour confirms that smartphone addiction has a physical impact on the brain.According to a study by journals of Addictive Behaviour published by Science Direct, the MRI scan reports of smartphone addicts showed physical changes in the shape and size of their brains, particularly decrease in the grey matter. Where the grey matter in the brain is the centre associated with muscle control, speech, sight and hearing and also mental health. Hence, the decrease in the grey mater results in a physical impact on the brain due to smartphone addictions.

As per the press released by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) on 30 November 2017 annual meeting, smartphone addiction creates an imbalance in the brain because smartphone and internet addiction increases the levels of a neurotransmitter called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) that regulates various brain functions.
