People in North Carolina can vote twice in elections.

North Carolina State Board of Elections director confirmed that it is illegal to vote twice in an election after Trump commented on double voting.

North Carolina State Board of Elections director confirmed that it is illegal to vote twice in an election after Trump commented on double voting. On Sept. 30, 2020, during an interview with WECT-TV in Wilmington, North Carolina, US President Donald Trump suggested that people in North Carolina should vote twice in the upcoming November election, once in person and once by mail. Even though it is illegal in the U.S. to cast a vote twice, Trump advised people who are voting by mail to double-check their vote and whether their vote is tabulated or not. If not, then they should visit the pooling station and vote in person. Trump also said that if the mail-in ballot system is as good as they claim, then voters will not be able to mail twice.

However, Karen Brinson Bell, executive director of the North Carolina State Board of Elections, issued a statement stating that attempting to vote twice in an election or soliciting someone to do so violates North Carolina law. Section 163-275 states that certain acts related to voting are declared as felonies, including any person who intends to commit a fraud to register or vote at more than one precinct or more than one time or convince another to do so. Therefore double voting by the same individual is illegal in North Carolina.
