A report claims that AB de Villiers had objected to the selection of Zondo in the team in 2015, but this allegation requires further validation. The South African news website News 24 quoted former Cricket South Africa(CSA) President Norman Arendse's report into the incident that on the night before the fifth ODI in Mumbai, the removal of Khaya Zonda's name from the team was contrary to the CSA Selection Policy.

As per the report, Zondo was selected to play in the fifth ODI against India in Mumbai, but AB de Villiers reportedly threatened to leave the team if the team included Zondo playing XI. The incident happened during South Africa's tour of India in 2015. Former South African cricketer Ashwell Prince also tweeted about the mistreatment of Zondo.

AB de Villiers has not issued any clarification on the issue, and there are no official reports to validate the claim that he threatened selectors to leave the team if Zondo was included in playing XI.
