The court's observation that Tipu Sultan was a monarch has been misquoted saying he was declared as a Jihadi by the Karnataka High Court.
While hearing a PIL filed by K P Manjunatha, the Karnataka High court questioned the logic behind the state government's decision to celebrate Tippu Jayanthi back in 2016. Hearing the petition, the Chief Justice said that Tipu Sultan was not a freedom fighter but a monarch who fought the opponents to protect his interests. The court also did not refer to Tippu as a man who raped, massacred, and converted Hindus.
We mark the claim as false as the words of the Chief Justice have been wrenched from their true meaning.
