A trade counsel testimony by the U.S. Natural Resources Committee and an annual statement by the Indian Department of Commerce supports the claim.According to the testimonial report submitted to Southern Shrimp Alliance, the total frozen non-breaded shrimp imports had increased by 21.9 per cent because of massive growth in Indian shrimp imports in the U.S. market by 2018. Indian market accounts for 43.5 per cent of total frozen warm-water shrimp import to the United States in 2019 (Refer Page No.4 and 5).

The Statement of Activities for the year 2018-19 published by the Indian Department of Commerce states that it had exported 13,77,244 MT of seafood worth US$ 7.08 billion during 2017 -18 and mainly frozen shrimp had been exported to the U.S. and South East Asia.

A news release by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) depicts that India exports seafood worth $2,300 million to the U.S. per year with frozen shrimp as the principal item of exports.

All the above facts prove that India is one of the largest shrimp exporters to the United States.
