One man identified as Anurag Poddar was dead and several were injured in police firing after clashes during the immersion of Goddess Durga in Munger.A police firing incident was reported during Durga idol immersion in Munger city of Bihar on October 27, 2020.

The deceased, identified as Anurag Poddar of 18 to 25 years old, was allegedly shot during the procession following the clash over a delay in pooja idol immersions.

A scuffle erupted in Munger between the group of people caring for the idol and the police. More tensions erupted as police declared lathi charge and opened fire on the public which allegedly retaliated with counter firing that caused an individual's death.

Reacting to the incident, Lipi Singh, Superintendent of Police, Munger said, during Durga puja immersion, some anti-social elements resorted to stone-pelting, which left 20 police officers injured, and indicated that someone from the crowd fired, leading to one death.

Bihar Police has detained over 30 people after the firing incident in Munger and has also recovered pistols, bullets, and cartridges from the spot.
