Delhi recorded 17,282 fresh cases of COVID-19 in a single day to become the worst affected city in India.India has been reeling from the second wave of COVID-19 as many states are reporting a spike in the number of daily positive cases. It set a grim world record of 332,730 fresh cases in a single day. States of Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Bihar have been worst affected by the pandemic. Reports of new cases in Maharashtra have come down slightly after the state government imposed the lockdown.

Since April second week Delhi has been reporting a higher number of positive cases, and on April 14, it overtook Mumbai as 17,282 fresh cases were reported in a single day. The positivity rate has also climbed to over 13 percent. According to experts, it has affected young and old, vaccinated or not vaccinated, and the virus has mutated into different strains, which is easily transmissible.
