Tweet by Confederation of All India Traders said that the viral message sent on WhatsApp were rumours.According to Times of India on 19 March 2020, news about the government of India going to close down all wholesale markets and retail shops in Delhi due to coronavirus resulted in stocking up of groceries after the information went viral on WhatsApp. The article published a clarification from the trade association that they are not closing the market.

The rumour was dismissed by CAIT secretary general Praveen Khandelwal on his twitter account and also by CAIT. They said that the markets will not be closed in Delhi or upcountry, but they will comply if the government decides to shutdown.
