IIT Delhi develops a plant that grows eggs.

The researchers of IIT Delhi have developed plant-based vegan eggs from lentils. The plants themselves did not produce those eggs.

The researchers of IIT Delhi have developed plant-based vegan eggs from lentils. The plants themselves did not produce those eggs. The IIT Delhi researchers conducted experiments for over six months with various substances for producing a plant-based substitute for animal-based eggs. The idea is to offer high-protein vegetarian and vegan options to those who either are vegetarian or have turned so because of ethical and health reasons.

The research head and assistant professor at the Centre for Rural Development and Technology, Dr. Kavya Dashora stated that they tried to make the egg using besan flour and refined flour but got the desired result when they tried with moong (split green gram). She added that they started the research because vegetarian eggs have more acceptability among the people. The plant-based egg's taste and texture are almost the same as the non-veg egg, and the protein content is nutritionally superior. The egg comes in the form of syrup and is processed inside the lab using thick material made from moong dal.

Therefore, IIT Delhi did not develop a plant that grows eggs; they produced a plant-based substitute for animal-based eggs.
