These illegal apps allegedly having Chinese links are used to route huge sums of money without bank account holders' knowledge. The police said that the apps were not registered or recognized by the Reserve Bank of India as an NBFC, and their operations were unlawful.

The Times of India reported that the police team analyzed the inward and outward flow of money from the illegal companies' bank accounts and recovered one crore from a daily wage worker in Delhi. The report quoted a police officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity that the individual was unaware of the bank transactions and did not possess any of the banking kits like ATM or passbook. The official said that the account was opened using the person’s details and with the promise of Rs 4000 per month for letting the culprits use his bank account. The person was unaware of the amount in his bank and was in fear of revealing the account's details as it would pose a threat to his life.
