A new cluster of COVID-19 cases in China's northeastern provinces has resulted in new lockdowns across the region.Earlier in May, three locals tested positive for Covid-19 in Shulan, a city in China's northeastern province of Jilin. Subsequently, more positive cases were found across the city. The new cases appeared to be taking longer than previous cases to develop symptoms after infection and have a longer recovery period. Those provinces bordered Russia and China enacted controls and closures along the China-Russia border. Although most of the new cases are limited to Shulan city, To prevent the risk of a new large outbreak, Chinese authorities have enacted lockdown measures on more than 100 million people residing in the three northeastern provinces of the Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang.
