For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, India registered one lakh positive cases in a single day during the second wave.
The second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in India started just 52 days ago. It has seen high peaks of infected cases than the first wave. Most of the cases were reported from Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Punjab. Maharashtra alone contributed 50,000 to the new cases reported on Sunday.
Unlike 2020, the Indian government has not imposed strict lockdown measures in the country, with businesses functioning normally with some restrictions and precautionary measures in place. In some European countries, a second lockdown was imposed during the onset of the second wave of the pandemic. With the assembly elections going on in at least four Indian states and a Union territory, the number of infections is expected to rise.
The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
