On April 7, 2021, an order was passed by the Government of Punjab imposing night curfew across all districts between 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, till April 30, 2021. There is a ban on political gatherings, restrictions on outdoor and indoor social gatherings, and the functioning of cinema halls and malls. All the educational institutions and Anganwadi Centres are closed, and school examinations have been postponed.
On April 16, Punjab recorded 30,745 new cases, with 290,707 total cases, according to the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Punjab.
On April 16, 2021, Chandigarh's Union Territory administrator imposed a weekend lockdown from April 16, 10:00 PM to April 19, 5:00 AM. This step was taken under the Disaster Management Act.
Only Chandigarh has imposed a lockdown on the weekend. Punjab and Haryana have imposed night curfew. As of April 17, there are no reports on Punjab imposing weekend lockdown.
