Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan tweeted that the National Institute of Virology, Pune has developed an antibody detection kit for COVID-19.On May 10, 2020, Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare stated in a tweet that the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune had successfully developed India’s first indigenous antibody testing kit for COVID-19. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) can detect antibodies in the blood created in response to COVID-19 infection. He also tweeted that Zydus Cadila has been entrusted with the responsibility of the mass-scale production of the ELISA testing kits. Lav Agarwal, joint secretary at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said the specificity of the ELISA test is 97% and its sensitivity is 92%.
