Researchers at Northeastern University have found that adding a nylon stocking layer could boost protection from cloth masks.

Assistant Professor of Northeastern University states that the protection from cloth masks would improve by the addition of a nylon stocking layer.

Assistant Professor of Northeastern University states that the protection from cloth masks would improve by the addition of a nylon stocking layer. The assistant professor Loretta A Fernandez told that use of the mask created with any sort of filtering such as coffee filters, toilet papers could be highly protective and an extra nylon layer would improve 50% protection. She detailed that the wearing of nylon layer in addition to mask would press the mask closer to the face, and that would avoid the air circulation around the filters.

NPR published an article on the research of Northeastern University. It added that according to the researcher, the nylon layer would create a tight covering around the face, which would reduce the airflow. They mentioned that the nylon layer would work similarly to a seal of an N95 respirator.
