As per US labour data report, More than 22 million people filed for unemployment aid in April due to the lockdown imposed to curb the spread of Coronavirus, resulting in an unemployment rate of 14.7%, a level not seen since the Great Depression in the 1930s. The number of jobs lost more than doubles the number seen in the 2007-2009 Great Recession, when 8.7 million Americans lost jobs. A staggering loss of jobs wiped out a decade of employment gains and pushed families to line up at food banks as they awaited government help. Therefore, the claim is true.
