Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam party promised several women-centric schemes for the women of Tamil Nadu if chosen to power.
The party said that it promises to "give dignity and recognition to homemakers." It also emphasized support for single mothers, NDTV reported.
It promised free-stay for women in distress, with hostels in every district and a follow-up complaint system registered with 181 women's helpline.
The party also stressed a 50% women representation in every uniformed sector in state services and distribution of feminine products like sanitary napkins for poor, urban, and rural adolescent girls and women via PDS.
According to the Indian Express, Hassan had last month said that homemakers should be paid well as it was a "big job."
Though Hassan has mentioned several women-centric schemes as a part of his party's agenda; however, so far they are only promises made by the party in their election manifesto.
