Rare yellow turtle spotted in West Bengal.

The turtle was rescued by villagers from a pond in Burdwan, West Bengal on October 27, 2020.

The turtle was rescued by villagers from a pond in Burdwan, West Bengal on October 27, 2020.Indian Forest Service officer Debashish Sharma shared images of a rescued turtle on Twitter, which was found in a pond in Burdwan, West Bengal. It was a rarely occurring Flapshell Turtle. The "flap-shelled" name stems from the presence of femoral flaps located on the plastron. These flaps of skin cover the limbs when they retract into the shell of the turtle.

In a follow-up tweet, the forest officer said that the turtle is an albino, and its yellow colour is likely because of some genetic mutation of a congenital disorder.

This was the second time a rare yellow turtle was spotted in India in 2020. Earlier, a similar turtle was spotted in the Sujanpur village in the Sooro district of Balasore, Odisha on July 22, 2020.
