According to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the parents of 545 children still cannot be found.

According to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the parents of 545 children still cannot be found. In 2018, Donald Trump formally implemented a controversial policy to prosecute those illegally crossing the U.S. border with Mexico—something that means those charged had their children placed in government custody.

Upon the orders of a federal judge, Trump's policy ended just months after it was announced. In the weeks that followed, many children were reunited with their families.

However, Trump's government had actually started separating families in 2017 as part of a secret pilot programme. In this year, over 1500 children were separated from their parents, and the orders of the federal judge did not apply to these families.

According to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the parents of 545 children still cannot be found. These children have now been apart from their parents for years, and some of them were infants when they were placed in government custody.
