While recording the Hathras victim's statement for the first time, the UP Police mentioned one name as the accused despite her naming three people. The charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the alleged gangrape case of a 20-year-old in Hathras in the SC-ST court is based on the victim's statement. CBI's charge sheet on the Hathras case criticized the handling of the Hathras case by UP police. The charge sheet has stated that the Police failed to add the three other names in the dying declaration recorded on Sep. 19, 2020. The statement given by the victim mentioned the names of Sandeep, Ravi, Luvkush, and Ramu as the accused of the rape and murder attempt. CBI has alleged that even though the victim alleged molestation, the Police had not conducted the victim's medical examination, leading to the loss of time and forensic evidence.
The CBI has mentioned that the women's oral statement was not put in writing at the Chandra police station on Sep. 14, 2020, and alleged that the victim had uttered the 'zabardasti' (coercion) in the oral statement, and that was also neglected.
