The U.S. military handed over the Bagram Air Base, the U.S. base in Afghanistan to the Afghan security forces.

U.S. officials have completed the transfer of Bagram airbase to Afghan forces.

U.S. officials have completed the transfer of Bagram airbase to Afghan forces. The Bagram airbase was the center of operations for U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan. The forces were stationed there for over 20 years. The departure took place after President Biden announced the withdrawal of all U.S. military troops from Afghanistan by September 2021.

The transfer of Bagram airbase to Afghan forces was completed after an extensive process without any fanfare. Bagram’s new commander confirmed that the U.S. forces had vacated the base completely. He said the U.S. also left behind small ammunition for weapons and took away heavy weapons.

However, the Biden administration has plans to maintain a small force within Afghanistan to carry out counterterrorism strikes without U.S. troops on the ground.
