The army convoy was stopped briefly by a group of protesting farmers at PAP Chowk, Jalandhar. The farmers have been protesting against three farm laws passed by the Parliament of India in September 2020. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) had called for a Bharat Bandh to mark one year of passing the laws. Reportedly, there was a mixed response for the bandh. In Punjab and Haryana, traders closed shops in solidarity with the farmers. The supporters blocked roads and highways, affecting smooth traffic movement. The train services were affected as farmers picketed the tracks.
A drama unfolded at the PAP-Rama Mandi National Highway where the protesting farmers blocked the road by parking tractors in front of an army convoy passing by and asked the army officers to join the protest. Later the army convoy was allowed to pass after some wrangling.
