If demonitisation fails then I will resign my post within 50 days says Narendra Modi.

PM Modi had asked Indian citizens to give him 50 days to curtail the shadow economy, but he never said he would quit his post.

PM Modi had asked Indian citizens to give him 50 days to curtail the shadow economy, but he never said he would quit his post. On Nov. 8, 2016, the Government of India announced the demonetization of all ₹500 and ₹1,000 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi series. On Nov. 13, 2020, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi while addressing a gathering in Goa, appealed to the people to support demonetization and asked the country to give him just 50 days to curtail the shadow economy and reduce the use of illicit and counterfeit cash to fund illegal activity and terrorism. He further said that if he failed to do so before Dec. 30, he would accept the punishment that the country decides for him. However, he never said he would resign from his post.

Leaders like Mamatha Banerjee and opposition parties dared Modi to resign, saying that he had promised if the cash crisis doesn't improve in 50 days from demonetization, he would personally answer for it.

Therefore, the opposition leaders raised the question of Modi's resignation from his post if he fails.
