Alt News is an India-based independent fact checking website founded by Pratik Sinha and Muhammed Zubair in Ahmedabad, Gujrat. It was launched on February 9, 2017, to combat misinformation and fake news. Alt News operates and is registered under the name of Pravda Media Foundation, which means it is not a for-profit organization. It is registered under Section 8 of the Company Act, 2013, with CIN U93030GJ2017NPL099435. All the expenses are paid either from the corpus, which is a combination of the donations collected via the Alt News website and the financial support received by Pravda Media Foundation, in the form of grants.
On the other hand, the Russian newspaper Pravda was the official newspaper of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. Its first publication was on May 5, 1912. Due to an internal dispute in 1996, Pravda Online (pravda.ru) is now privately owned and has international editions published in Russian, English, French, and Portuguese.
