Never called for the leaders in Portland and in Oregon to call in the National Guard.

During the debate, US President Donald Trump said that during the protests, which occurred across the United States after the death of George Floyd, former Vice President Joe Biden did not call on leaders in Portland and Oregon (both governed by Democrats) to call in the National Guard to quell protests. Trump's claim is misleading as Biden has neither the responsibility nor the authority to call on leaders of Democratic governed states to do anything. The National Guard is usually called in to help by governors during natural disasters like floods or hurricanes, reported ABC news. The National Guard's track record during protests "has been abysmal", according to Tom Nolan, an associate professor in criminal justice at Boston University. "They [the National Guard] have no experience and no training in going into situations in urban areas and confronting large numbers at protests," he said.
