A death toll in a militant attack on a maternity ward in Afghanistan has increased from 14 to 24 which includes infants.On May 12, 2020, at around 10 am (0530 GMT), at least three gunmen wearing police uniforms attacked a 100-bed maternity hospital in the Dashti Barchi area in Kabul. At least 24 people have been killed including two infants, women who had just given birth and nurses. At least 16 people have been injured and 18 babies have been left motherless. Security forces had killed the attackers by afternoon. No group has claimed responsibility for this massacre yet. More than 80 women and babies and three foreign nationals have been evacuated, said Interior Ministry spokesman Tareq Arian. Afghan officials announced that 14 people had lost their lives. In two days the number of fatalities rose to 24. This is a developing story and the figures are being updated as and when information about the attack is being released by the media and Afghan officials.
