A photoshopped image falsely claims that the Indian national flag was hoisted atop the watchtower at Srinagar's Lal Chowk on Independence Day 2020.

A photoshopped image falsely claims that the Indian national flag was hoisted atop the watchtower at Srinagar's Lal Chowk on Independence Day 2020.On research, we found that the image of the tricolor national flag of India at the top of Lal Chowk is an edited version of a picture taken in 2010. The original image of Lal Chowk without the flag was captured by a freelance journalist Mubasshir Mushtaq. On June 22, 2010, he had published the image of Lal chowk with a blog named 'Paradise Lost?'.

According to the news reports, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha lifted the national flag at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Sonawar to celebrate 74th Independence Day, not in Lal Chawk.
