ICMR planned to release a Covid-19 vaccine on 15 August. But the vaccine trials are still in an early stage, and no fixed date of release has been setCovaxin is India's first vaccine for COVID-19, which is being developed by Bharath Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology (NIV). ICMR had asked Bharath Biotech to complete all clinical trials before 15 August so that it could be launched on India's Independence Day.

However, in a recent update, the Chairman and Managing Director of Bharath Biotech, Mr. Krishna Ella, said that the company had just entered Phase 2 of the clinical trials after spending 30 days on Phase 1. He further said that the company would not rush the launch, considering the safety and long-term effectiveness of the vaccine. He raised concerns that such a step could lead to a long-term disaster. Consequently, the company has not set any fixed date for the release of the vaccine.
