Joe Biden's climate plans do not entail an outright ban on oil production but a commitment to ending oil and gas subsidies.

Joe Biden's climate plans do not entail an outright ban on oil production but a commitment to ending oil and gas subsidies. During the presidential debate on October 22, President Trump questioned his opponent Joe Biden whether he would close down the oil industry to which Biden replied that he would transition. Trump retorted that Biden was going to destroy the oil industry.

Biden's aides released a statement following the debate saying he planned to phase out taxpayer subsidies for fossil fuel companies, not the industry altogether.

The Biden campaign’s climate plan calls for the U.S. to have net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. His climate change plan entails ending new leases for fracking and new oil and gas drilling on federal lands. Biden's policy does not include an absolute ban on existing fracking on public lands or new or existing fracking on private lands.
