A 2018 video of the Varanasi flyover collapse is falsely shared to claim that a flyover collapsed in Modinagar in 2021.In February 2021, an old video showing a flyover collapsing is making rounds on YouTube and social media platforms. A caption in Hindi claims that the incident happened in Uttar Pradesh's Modinagar. The same video also became viral with the caption "Avoid Balanagar Jeedimetla route. Under construction flyover collapse. Gold Telangana." The post also stated that several vehicles with passengers inside were crushed under a concrete slab.

On February 24, the Cyberabad Metropolitan Police (Telangana) responded to a civilian query via a tweet that the incident did not happen in Balanagar in Hyderabad and that it was from Varanasi.

A reverse image search of the video screenshots led us to reports about the incident in Varanasi's Cantonment area on May. 16, 2018. The incident occurred when two pillars of an under-construction flyover collapsed in Varanasi. About 16 people died, including laborers working on the flyover, trapped under the concrete slab. Eight people were arrested at the time, including engineers of the UP Bridge Corporation and a contractor.

Recent news related to the bridge is that construction began in November 2020 for the 33 km Duhai – Modinagar North – Shatabdi Nagar section of the Delhi – Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), and a Community Interaction Program took place in Modinagar about the same in January 2021.
