An investigation by Nottingham City Council confirms that over 140 people were affected by food contaminated with human faeces sold by a Kebab shop.In 2014, a restaurant named Khyber Pass Kebab Shop in Nottingham, England had served food which was contaminated with the human faeces. More than 140 takeaway customers were sick for up to two months and complaints were filed at Nottingham City Council. The investigation revealed that the food poisoning organism Enteroinvasive E. coli (EIEC) which is mainly found in the human gut was responsible and that the same strain of EIEC was found in lettuce prepared by the food workers at Kebab shop. Mohammad Abdul Basit and Amjad Bhatti pleaded guilty for selling food unfit for human consumption, poor personal cleanliness of food workers and inadequate hand washing facilities and drainage facilities. The Nottingham Crown Court ordered a suspended four-month jail sentence for both of them and ordered to pay each victim £200 compensation as well as paying costs of £25,752.36.
