PM Modi helped Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik in procuring Coronavirus testing kits within six hours.

There is no credible information to support the claim that Odisha's CM sought help from PM Modi in procuring COVID-19 test kits.

There is no credible information to support the claim that Odisha's CM sought help from PM Modi in procuring COVID-19 test kits. There was a massive shortage of COVID-19 supplies during the start of the second wave in India. Many states requested the Center to provide necessary help to fight the outbreak. The number of daily tests went down owing to a shortage of medical test kits.

Amid this, an article published by OpIndia cited the PGURUS report, which claimed that Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik telephoned Indian PM Narendra Modi at midnight asking for help to deliver the testing kits before the morning of the following day. However, the article seems to be not reliable with missing details. It did not specify the date of conversation between the two leaders or when the medical kits were airlifted to Odisha.

We found the only report on April 10, 2020, when the Odisha government airlifted COVID-19 test kits, reagents, and Viral Transport Medium (VTM) kits from Maharashtra's Mumbai using special air cargo. It did not mention anything about the Odisha CM requesting PM Modi. Hence we mark the claim as false.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19, including symptoms, prevention, and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organization or your national healthcare authority.
