The STEC had was the lowest bidder for the construction of the project, but the decision is still under process and has not yet been finalized. Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co. Ltd (STEC), had emerged as the lowest bidder for the construction of an underground stretch of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS (Regional Rapid Transit System) project on June 12 with a bid of Rs 1,126.9 crore. Five bids were received for the project of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation. The bidders were SKEC (Korea)+Tata, STEC (China), L&T (India), Afcons (India), and GulermakAgir (Turkey).
After the violent face-off between India and China military on the Ladakh’s Galwan valley, many questioned whether the contract will still be awarded to STEC. An official in the transport and highways ministry, however, ruled out any chance of rejecting the STEC’s financial bid because of it being a Chinese company unless it is found that it has adopted 'unfair means.' The NCRTC tender for Delhi-Meerut stretch civil work is still under process and not yet finalized.
