
African Americans' unemployment rate in August 2019 is 5.5%, the lowest figure recorded since the U.S. Labor Department started collecting statistics.
Moreover, the statistics also reveal that black unemployment dropped from a recession high of 16.8% in March 2010 to 7.8% in January 2017. Black Americans' unemployment reached 16.8% in May 2020, from 16.7% in April 2020 during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Therefore there is a consistent decline in the black unemployment rate from 2017.
