Mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot had deployed police officers to guard her house in the wake of violent protests in Chicago on July 23, 2020.
Protesters gathered outside the Chicago mayor's house as she ordered the removal of the city's Christopher Columbus statues. Thousands of demonstrators waving banners demanded that the mayor defund the Chicago Police Department and turf federal agents out of the town since racism and police brutality increased in Logan Square. Hundreds of police officers guarded the statue of Columbus and the mayor's house. The Chicago police had formed a human barricade around the mayor's home. Videos and photos showing the blockade of police and other protesters near Lightfoot's home dancing in the streets were posted on social media.
