A. Raja from the DMK party allegedly engaged in the 2G Spectrum scam and caused losses worth ₹1,76,000 crore. In 2011, India's auditing agency, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) submitted a report on the 2G Spectrum scandal indicting Andimuthu Raja, the Telecommunication Ministry's former head. The minister allegedly caused a loss of 1,76,379 crore. According to the report, in 2008, the telecom ministry under A Raja failed to carry out free and fair auctions and instead handed out 2G licenses at low prices. The minister allegedly advanced the auction's cut-off date to block other telecom companies and favor firms like Unitech in return for bribes.
Six years later, in 2017, a Central Bureau of Investigation special court acquitted A Raja and all other accused in the 2G spectrum scandal.
