Pro-Trump protestors broke into the U.S. Capitol building in Washington DC.

The Capitol building witnessed a protest by the pro-Trump mob against Congress’ formal approval of Biden’s victory in the elections. On Jan. 6, 2021, the lawmakers gathered for a joint session to certify President-elect Joe Biden's Electoral College victory. To protest against the election results and demand the rejection of Joe Biden's victory, thousands of Trump supporters gathered outside the U.S. Capitol building. They stormed into the building leading to violence and a lockdown around the building. They were seen breaking doors and windows, fighting the police, running around the halls, moving towards the camber rooms, ransacking the senate and house chamber, the offices of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and other representatives. In defense, police reportedly drew their guns, barricaded the doors, and dispersed tear gas, Associated Press reported.

The movement started after Donald Trump's speech during his Save America rally in Ellipse, where he urged his supporters to “walk down to the Capitol” and stop "this egregious assault on our democracy.” Liz Cheney, Republican from Wyoming, told Fox News. "The president incited the mob. The president addressed the mob. He lit the flame."

Associated Press, BBC, and NPR reported the protest's situation through images and videos along with a rough timeline of the rioter's activities inside the Capitol.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) released a list of Persons of Interest who were part of the riot. It offered a $1,000 reward prize in seeking assistance for finding the people involved.
