The practice of tenant blacklisting is being practiced in the United States.

Tenant blacklisting is still being practiced in the U.S but many states have passed legislation making it illegal and others are considering the same.

Tenant blacklisting is still being practiced in the U.S but many states have passed legislation making it illegal and others are considering the same. The screening reports are produced by tenant screening companies like TransUnion, CoreLogic, or On-Site for landlords who they think will be bad tenants called as tenant blacklist. Tenant screening reports and tenant background checks are other names for a tenant blacklist. It contains the details about an individual who has been sued in the Housing Court (or in Civil Court for a housing dispute), the case, including the type of legal action, date of proceedings, the amount of rent demanded, and the outcome of the case.

Each court jurisdiction has its policy of releasing a screening report to the screening companies, and each state has their landlord-tenant laws in the United States. New York and California have banned tenant blacklisting in their state while states like New Jersey State are pushing for legislation to make it illegal. People from other states also are concerned about the tenants blacklisting procedure as it results in more homelessness. Even in states that have made the blacklisting illegal, the laws vary from one city to another and one county to another within the state as they all have their own tenant laws.
