G7 leaders have agreed to supply over one billion doses of the COVID-19 vaccine collectively.

G7 leaders have agreed to supply over one billion doses of the COVID-19 vaccine collectively.The G7 is a political forum consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The 47th G7 summit was held from June 11 to 13, 2021, in Cornwall, the UK, after a gap of two years.

At the end of the summit, Johnson announced that the group leaders have agreed to pledge more than one billion COVID-19 vaccines to the world's poorest countries. He added that the U.K. would be contributing 100 million vaccines. The vaccines will be supplied either directly or through the Covax scheme of WHO.

There was huge pressure on the leaders of wealthy nations to support the global vaccine program as the pandemic has spread to more than 200 countries. Many poor countries don't have access to vaccines, while rich nations have a surplus. However, the 1 billion dose pledge is too small as WHO estimates that 11 billion doses are required to vaccinate at least 70 percent of the world's population.
