West Bengal BJP leader Rakesh Singh was arrested after being accused by youth leader Pamela Goswami of implicating her in a drug case.

West Bengal BJP leader Rakesh Singh was arrested after being accused by youth leader Pamela Goswami of implicating her in a drug case.On Feb. 19, 2021, Pamela Goswami, leader of BJP's youth wing, was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act(NDPS) for possessing 90 grams of cocaine. Police intercepted Goswami's car in the New Alipore area of West Bengal and found the cocaine in plastic pouches inside her handbag.

A day after her arrest, Goswami demanded an independent probe into the case and made allegations against Rakesh Singh, another BJP leader in the state. While being taken into police custody, she said that Rakesh Singh was responsible for her arrest. According to reports, police sent a notice to Rakesh Singh to appear for investigation before Feb. 23, 2021. It is reported that he denied the order saying that he would not be able to appear before Feb. 26, 2021. Seeking protection from being arrested, he filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court, which the court dismissed.

On Feb. 23, 2021, at around 3:00 pm, Kolkata Police searched Mr. Singh's residence for about three hours. He was not at his home. Police arrested him in Galsi, Burdwan, based on his mobile location. Cases have been filed against Rakesh Singh's sons Sivam Singh and Suvam Singh for disrupting police from discharging their duties. Further details of his arrest have not yet been disclosed, and the drug possession case is still under probe by the West Bengal police.
