Indians have genetic protection against coronavirus.

Research published by the Nature website refutes the claim that Indian have genetic advantages to fight against coronavirus.

Research published by the Nature website refutes the claim that Indian have genetic advantages to fight against coronavirus. As per the article by Nature Asia, a team of Indo-US researchers had found that Indian compared to the world population carry natural killing cells mostly which detect and terminate the infections at early stages. It also reported that one of the researchers, Rajalingam Raja said it is not yet proved whether having such killer cells is an advantage or disadvantage to the Indians.

According to the Nature website, the research study illustrates that the percentage frequency of KIR2DL5 (A and B, polymorphic forms of KIR2DL5 gene) is higher in Asian Indians than the other ethnic populations studied, but the graph below from the same study suggests that the Individuals carrying the KIR2DL5 gene vary substantially among populations ranging in frequency from 35-85%. Hence, the higher immunity can be found in every ethnicity ranging from 35-85% population, not just in Indians.

Nowhere the research papers have mentioned that there is higher immunity frequency in Asian-Indians population. Also, there are no conclusions drawn on any ethnic group being genetically higher or lower regarding immunity.
