West Bengal BJP President Dilip Ghosh on January 28, raised questions on why people were not dying during Shaheen Bagh protests in the freezing cold. Many women and children had been protesting on the road at Delhi's Shaheen Bagh against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), demanding a roll-back of the newly amended law. They had continued their protest even when Delhi's temperature had dropped to 2.4 degrees Celsius, the lowest since 1996.

BJP's Bengal unit president Dilip Ghosh, known for making controversial statements, said that he was surprised that no one died at the protest site despite low freezing temperatures. He expressed disbelief in how they withstood such extreme conditions to point out that some vested interests funded them.
