A Politico article states that the Department of Justice filed lawsuit against Donald Trump, Fred Trump, and the Trump management company in 1973.According to the Civil Rights Litigation Clearinghouse, the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump, his father Fred Trump, and their real estate firm Trump Management Company. The lawsuit alleged that the company violated the Fair Housing Act of 1968 by excluding African-Americans and Puerto Ricans from apartments.

A Politico article stated that the lawsuit was settled with a consent decree. The settled agreement contained no admission of wrongdoing on behalf of the Trumps, but required their firm to institute a "series of safeguards to make sure apartments were rented without regard to race, color, religion, sex or national origin."
