An FIR has been registered under various sections of the IPC including the attempt to murder (307) and the Prevention of Corruption Act against SP.Indrakant Tripathi, a stone trader from Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba had alleged that the district Superintendent of Police (SP) Manilal Patidar had demanded monthly payment of Rs 6 lakh from him and had expressed a fear that he could be killed by the police officer if he doesn't pay.

On September 08, 2020, Indrakant Tripathi was found under mysterious circumstances, with a bullet wound in his neck. Indrakant succumbed to injuries at the hospital on September 13, 2020.

Manilal Patidar was suspended on the directives of the state chief minister following corruption complaints. Patidar and three station house officers, Rakesh Saroj, Rajeev Singh, Devendra Shukla, and a constable Rajiv Kashyap were named in an FIR registered against the Superintendent of Police of Mahoba, Manilal Patidar on September 12, 2020.
