Nonessential retail shops have been opened in both England and Wales.Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Alok Sharma confirmed on 9 June that all high street shops, department stores, and shopping centers will reopen in England with conditions to ensure the safety of the customers. Shop owners have been advised to display a notice outside their shops to notify all personnel including employees about the guidelines they have to follow. Alok Sharma also said the UK continues to meet the 5 tests set out in the Prime Minister’s roadmap to recovery. As laid down, businesses reopened on 19 June 2020, and many have been gradually announcing their plans to reopen.
Meanwhile, in Wales, shops reopened on 22 June with social distancing measures in place. However, people will only be able to visit non-essential stores if they are near their homes due to coronavirus regulations.
