Chidambaram once won a lost election after the winner asked for a recount.

Former Union Home Minister P Chidambaram won the Sivaganga Lok Sabha seat on May 15, 2009, after asking for a recount. During the 2009 Indian general elections, senior Congress leader from Tamil Nadu and the Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram, won the Sivaganga Lok Sabha seat, in Tamilnadu beating his opponent R S Rajakannappan, by a thin margin of 3354 votes.

Chidambaram had first been declared defeated by about 3,000 votes, after which he asked for a recount. He was declared as the winner after the recount, following which RajaKannappan wanted another recount. After the second recount also, poll officials declared that Chidambaram was the winner.
