Robot judges that determine guilt or innocence will be commonplace in 50 years.

Researchers and AI experts believe that robot judges can be familiar with the courtroom but aren't definite in replacing human judges anytime soon.

Researchers and AI experts believe that robot judges can be familiar with the courtroom but aren't definite in replacing human judges anytime soon.Artificial Intelligence (AI) expert and founder of Hack Future Lab, Terence Mauri, believes that courtroom judges will be robotic by 2070.

He stated that robots would detect lying signs that couldn't be distinguished by a human as they will identify irregular speech patterns, body temperature, and eye movements while passing judgments.

He further claimed that robots would detect physical and psychological signs of dishonesty with 99.9 percent accuracy. Still, the data would have to be then analyzed for providing an error-free judgment of whether a defendant or witness is telling the truth.

AI and automation are already playing a large part in the U.S. legal system. While some other researchers also suggest that robot judges can be deployed to adjudicate small claims disputes, it can help the courtroom clear the black log cases.

A study conducted on reengineering the justice system and robot judges indicated that disruptive technology could fundamentally challenge traditional litigators and judges' work. In the long run, the study predicted that robot judges could become the dominant way to resolve all but the most complex and high-value disputes that need human monitoring.

Judges and lawyers also oppose AI and automation in various places as it can lack authenticity and public trust in the legal systems. There is no definite period specified by the experts on replacing human judges with highly programmed and sequenced robots that can analyze data and algorithms before the judgment proceeds. The experts also pointed out that robots could be employed to determine the case in the future, but there is nothing proposed or implemented in the systems.
