The news published by Gavel and the International Center for Investigative Reporting refutes the claim.It was reported in media that a dismissed police officer, Ogunyemi Olalekan, who was found guilty for the homicide of Kolade Johnson had regained freedom and celebrated his 50th birthday.

The news was refuted by Gavel, a civic tech organization which said that it has been monitoring the case and Ogunyemi Olalekan has been in prison since the case was last heard on 19 March 2020. Further, The International Center for Investigative Reporting, ICIR said the news is false and has gathered evidence that Ogunyemi remained in Ikoyi prison and has not been given a bail option.
