Eye witness statements and the court's judgment indicate the presence of BJP leaders in and around the site during the demolition of mosque in 1992.
On December 6, 1992, BJP and other organizations supporting it were to start work on building the temple. However, they had committed to the government and the courts that it would only be a symbolic start of a religious ceremony, and no damage would be done to the mosque. A vast crowd, perhaps 150,000 strong, had gathered and listened to BJP and right-wing Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders. Among those present were LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti, and Kalyan Singh, now senior figures in the BJP-led government.
Advani was on the dais 200 meters from where the mosque stood, allegedly provoking the kar sevaks who demolished the mosque. The demolition was a sudden action, where people broke through the barriers and climbed on the masjid.
After the 28 years of the case, a significant CBI court on September 30, 2020, has acquitted all 32 accused with senior figures in BJP of their role in the demolition of the Babri mosque stating the lack of evidence.
The judgment from CBI judge Surendra Kumar Yadav reflected that the probe agency could not prove the authenticity of the audio and video evidence submitted, supporting the planned act of demolition. He further stated that the accused had tried to stop the mob who had razed on the masjid.
Hence, from the judgment and the articles, it can be established that BJP leaders were present during the demolition of Babri masjid.
