This tweet by AOC was fabricated. It does not appear on her twitter feed or databases that track deleted tweets. She confirmed the tweet is not real. On June 23, the day of the New York Primary elections, a screenshot of an alleged tweet by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat representing New York started circulating on social media. The screenshot of the tweet stated that governors should keep businesses closed until after the presidential election because economic recovery will help get President Donald Trump re-elected. Social media users who shared the image claimed that the congresswoman deleted the tweet after it had been shared 20,000 times.

However, an investigation into the tweet revealed that there was no evidence of the congresswoman posting such a message on her Twitter. Archived versions of her account from the day it was allegedly posted don’t have any evidence of the tweet. Additionally, databases that track deleted tweets by politicians also don't reveal evidence of her posting that tweet. The congresswoman's office also revealed that the tweet is fake and reported it on Facebook.
